We are an independent publishing house based in Kolkata (West Bengal, India), publishing mostly in English and Bengali. Our primary focus has been academic texts on a wide range of topics like History, Politics, Art and Culture, Sociology, Anthropology, Economics and Political Economy along with novels, novellas and short stories.

Hyphen’s aim is to carve a niche in progressive publishing works by both young and established academicians. We encourage young scholars to send us their dissertations and theses for publication as they hold the promise for the future. Journalistic writings are also taken up by us, particularly those which speak to the contemporary. As the name suggests, Hyphen is dedicated to connect and bridge the gap between readers and writers. Though one of the latest satellites in the firmament of book publication, we hope to rise higher and glow brighter. We are backed by a sizeable academic community, strong leadership and well acclaimed editorial and advisory board.

Why HYPHEN?

This publishing endeavor began during the depressing times of the COVID pandemic. Combating the threats of crumbling economies and existentially helpless societies, a number of hopeful souls kept the flames of knowledge burning. The creation of Hyphen may be considered as one such little contribution. As the world continues to reel under several severe challenges it becomes essential for us to understand where we stand as rational beings. The nuanced relationship between time and human society is efficiently manifested through subjects like History, Economics, Sociology, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Anthropology, or more precisely, through Social Sciences. As a sizeable field of research struggles to get exposure, Hyphen dedicates itself to offer a platform for progressive publishing works.

Publish With Us

All manuscripts should be sent to us via email at hyphen.kol.21@gmail.com . Full manuscripts are desirable; however, prospective writers can feel free to send us at least three sample chapters for review. The review process takes at least three months from the date of submission. We reserve the right to reject or take up manuscripts for publication. We will make sure to revert with comments from our reviewers on the manuscripts. We will not compromise with the quality of the content. Manuscripts will not be pulped even in case of non-acceptance. After embellishments and corrections as per our reviewer’s comments, we will encourage you take it up for publication. Hyphen strongly feels that every written parchment has a life. It deserves to live.

Manabikatha/ মানবীকথা

The series attempts to capture stories of women and by women who have mustered the courage to pick up the pen and rediscover themselves. HYPHEN welcomes and celebrates the writer in each of them.

গল্প আমাদের ঘরে ঘরে।  কান্নাহাসির গল্প, কষ্ট সুখের গল্প,  না পাওয়া-পাওয়ার গল্প, ক্ষোভ- ভালবাসার গল্প, জেদ-লড়াইয়ের গল্প, স্বপ্ন দেখার গল্প, বেঁচে থাকার গল্প । ঘর গেরস্থালিতে মহিলাদের গল্পগুলো নিয়ে বেশির ভাগ ক্ষেত্রেই কেউ কখনও মাথা ঘামায় না। নেপথ্যে থেকে কখন যেন তারা উবে যায়। হারিয়ে যায় তাদের গল্প।  তাদের না বলতে পারা কথাগুলো দুমলাটে বন্দী করার কথা ভেবেছে হাইফেন।  এই প্রয়াসের একটা পোষাকি নামও ভাবা হয়েছে - মানবীকথা।

Our target readership would be primarily from the academic field. However, given the diverse coverage we expect good circulation among readers from other sections as well.
